Too early to hope Leicester win the league. I hope they turn to shit, along with the other teams above us. I still want West Ham to win the league. Why stop dreaming now?

Re: MOTD

Didn't Harry get Spuds into 4th the year Chelsea won it and stopped them getting a Champions League place. if it's already been said, fuck off, I can't be bothered going through the entire thread.
I think that we are almost there though 1 more point to get to 40

There is no scenario whereby CL qualification would ever go below 4th in the league. We would only get the max 5 teams into the CL if both clubs that win the CL and Europa League finish outside the top 4 and then only the top 3 in the league would qualify which would give us the 5 places in the competition, other than that we would only get the 4 places and it would just be the top 4 that qualifies and if the teams that win the CL or the EL also finish in the top 4 we don't get an additional places in the CL:
C&P from that UEFA article:
Regarding the top three associations (Spain, England and Germany): if two clubs from one of these countries win the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and neither finish their domestic league in a position that qualifies them for the UEFA Champions League, the following will happen:
– The club that won the UEFA Champions League will go straight into the group stage – The UEFA Europa League winners will go into the UEFA Champions League play-offs – The club that had qualified for a UEFA Champions League play-off spot via their domestic league competition (i.e. finished fourth) will transfer into the UEFA Europa League

It's a max of five now.

Not sure if that means you get an extra place allocated to the league (i.e. 5th spot) if a team that qualifies both by winning one of the euro cups and the league position.

Re: MOTD

Just read up, Liverpool were given special dispensation to compete but from now on if a club qualifys then 4th becomes a Europa League place.
Happened in Spain before apparently.
Max teams you can have in th CL is 4 regardless of who wins what, apparently the FA have the final say though.

Re: MOTD

Nope, remember when Everton finished 4th then Liverpool won the CL. I'm sure UEFA said they'd let Everton into qualifying but said from then on the place was taken away from the league?

Re: MOTD

you get Champs League place for winning the Euopa
So if they also came top 4 surely the 4th Champs League place would go down to 5th?

Westside.
I could be wrong but I think FA cup is different to League cup in the sense that if say a top 4 club won the FA cup. Then the Europa league place will go to the Finalist? Bit like how we qualified back in 2006.

Re: MOTD

Agree with all of that Mike, but if Man City win the League Cup and finish in top 4, Europa League goes down to 6th place in the league.
Also, looking at the last 16 of the FA cup, there's a strong chance it could be one of the likely top 4 (if not us of course!) that win it. Again that would release another Europa League spot to the league. So in theory 7th could be enough for The Europa league.
I don't know the effect on European qualification places for the league, were say Chelsea, to win the Champions League and finish outside the top 4.

I agree but also still think they know they have 14 games to go and arent expecting to win it so will play the same way.
be interesting if they are in with a shout still with 6 to 8 games to go. then we will see if they buckle.
I hope they do it
